The Body Shop Christmas 2019

[samples/affiliate/prior ad relationship] Last Christmas I bought my youngest niece a selection of The Body Shop products – she is just starting her journey of looking after her skin and enjoying beauty products so it was the ideal, safe and fun choice that she absolutely loved. I know that The Body Shop doesn’t need any introduction so before I show you my product picks, it’s a good time to tell you that the brand has become B Corps certified. In a nutshell (sustainably sourced of course!) “Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.” What’s notable about this year’s Christmas selection is the lack of plastic – where once there would have been a plastic window as standard, they’re absent and the products are none the worse for it.

A good example is The Merry Treats Body Butter Trio, £15 HERE, above. No plastic in the window! On that note, The Body Shop work with plastic pickers in India to ensure the plastic they do use is responsibly sourced and where possible, recyclable. It’s taking me nearly for ever to get this post completed because I keep being side-tracked by features such as THIS explaining exactly what’s being done with this initiative.

If you’ve got men or boys to buy for, this shave kit, £15 HERE, comes with a pocket square made from recycled saris as well as the softening shave cream and a wooden brush – cruelty free, obvs.

I’ve tried to shop more responsibly this year, buying locally where I can – the messaging is filtering through. I think perhaps I would say, because I’m not a saint, that I’ve been more mindful than previous years. I’ve tried to go for things that will get used like shower gels and wine rather than sit and gather dust. I like the Almond Milk and Honey collection – weirdly, I’m always drawn to honey in products but don’t like the taste of it so never have it in food. The small box is £6.

Happy to say that the fun stuff is still about – I mean, why wouldn’t you want a hair wrap with monkey ears? I have a bunny ear hair band for pushing my hair back when I put foundation on and I love it. It makes me smile every time and remember not to take life too seriously. I also love the banana shampoo and conditioner that gives a real hit of banana fragrance but it’s better for dry hair than oily. My final pick is the Handcream Cracker Set, £25 HERE, which is great to split up if you have a girlfriend dinner pre-Christmas or multiple small gifts to buy. There are six different varieties in the box. A quick mention for Black Friday – there is a special bundle set specifically for this day with a value of £80 for £35 HERE and it features face care (vitamin E), hair care (banana!), bath and body. At the time of writing, it had a ‘selling fast’ sticker on it and given that all the advent calendars are sold out I well believe there may be none left by the time you read this.
