Fifteen people, including 10 children, spent Thanksgiving away from home after a multi-family dwelling on Putnam Street in Paterson caught fire Wednesday evening.

The blaze started on the second floor of the wood-frame building on Putnam Street around 6:20 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation, said Deputy Chief Andrew Ricciardi. He said no injuries were reported.

Ricciardi said power was cut from the building, indicating there was "substantial damage" to the home.

He said the fire department usually contacts the American Red Cross to help relocate families. Red Cross representatives could not be immediately reached Thursday morning.
