Man injured, another arrested after Thanksgiving-morning shooting at Stevens Point hotel

STEVENS POINT – One man was injured and another is in custody following a shooting Thanksgiving morning at an under-construction Stevens Point hotel. 

The shooting happened around 3:20 a.m. Thursday at the Comfort Suites hotel at 300 N. Division St., according to a news release from Stevens Point police. When officers arrived at the hotel, which is currently under construction, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. That man was taken to the hospital. Police did not release the man's condition. 

Police arrested a 24-year-old man at the scene. He is being held in the Portage County Jail on suspicion of attempted homicide. Police did not release his name.

Four people, including the victim and suspect, were construction workers living at the hotel while they were working on it, police said. All four workers are from out of state. The Comfort Suites hotel has been closed since May when the city declared it was uninhabitable due to mold, water damage and structural damage. 

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, police said.
