DTE Energy customers without power on Thanksgiving

Detroit Free Press

Thanksgiving morning started without electricity for thousands of DTE Energy customers after 50-mph wind gusts hit metro Detroit on Wednesday.

As of 4:30 p.m. Thursday, DTE Energy reported less than 3,000 customers were without power. The company says 106,000 customers were affected in total by Wednesday's weather. DTE crews and lineman from other companies will be working 16-hour shifts around the clock until all customers have power restored, the company said.

More than 350 power lines were downed, with more than half of those being secured, DTE said. The company warns people to stay at least 20 feet away from all power lines and anything they come into contact with, and consider them live even if they’re not arcing, sparking or buzzing.

If you spot a downed line, contact DTE Energy by calling (800) 477-4747, visiting DTE’s website at dteenergy.com or accessing the DTE Energy Mobile app from your smart phone or tablet.

The service disruption appears to be spread evenly across metro Detroit, according to the DTE Energy outage map.

Outside of metro Detroit, Consumer's Energy reports 290 Michigan customers without power as of 4:30 p.m.
