Don't spend all your shopping energy on Black Friday. Save some of it to support local businesses on Small Business Saturday.

Small businesses around Franklin County will host special deals Nov. 30. In Chambersburg, the organization Downtown Chambersburg Inc. will make an event out of Small Business Saturday that is expected to attract 200 shoppers to the area.

DCI will give away $2,500 in Downtown Dollars via a drawing 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of F&M Trust on Memorial Square.

The first 181 shoppers who present a receipt showing purchases of $25 or more from a downtown business, dated Nov. 30, 2019, will be able to enter a drawing from which they can win $10, $20 or $50 in Downtown Dollars. One shopper will win $100.

Downtown Dollars are essentially gift certificates that can be redeemed at participating merchants only on Small Business Saturday. The entire amount of a Downtown Dollar certificate must be spent at one merchant; no change will be given.

Downtown businesses are those located in the central core district which reaches North to the Towers at Falling Spring, South to Washington Street, East to Third Street, and West to the Rail Trail (also includes The Doh-Nuh T Co., Roy-Pitz Brewing Co., GearHouse Brewing Co., Nathan Miller Chocolate, Jan Zell Wines & Ciders and Jim’s Farmers Market).

In addition to the giveaway, downtown merchants will offer deals exclusive to Small Business Saturday.

This will be the eighth Small Business Saturday in downtown Chambersburg, with the goal of helping small businesses gain exposure during one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year.

Originally created nationally by American Express to take place the Saturday between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the local event is hosted by DCI with support from co-presenting sponsors Downtown Business Council of Chambersburg and F&M Trust and other sponsors.

“Small businesses are key to our downtown because the business owners are part of our community,” said Sam Thrush, president of DCI. “Walking into the stores you will receive that personal touch when you meet the shop owner and hear their stories. By shopping local on November 24, you will support our small businesses which is vital to the progress of downtown Chambersburg.

Capitol Theatre also encourages downtown shoppers to check out the show "A Touch of Christmas," by Hagerstown Municipal Band at 3 p.m. in the theater at 159 S. Main St. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for senior citizens and $15 for students. To buy tickets, go to https://bit.ly/2pF1CpO, call 717-263-0202 or visit the box office during weekdays or up to one hour before showtime.
