Churches and organizations host free Thanksgiving meals in Franklin County

Thanksgiving is a time of year many associate with generosity and togetherness. Some people in Franklin County have felt the need to donate their time, food and fellowship with their fellow neighbors at the start of this holiday season. 

Need a hand or want to lend one? Here is a wrap-up of locations across the area that are hosting free Thanksgiving meals for their communities.

Caroline Scott, Wanda Goshorn, Jay Holtry and Trish Schriver volunteer to serve turkey and mashed potatoes on Thanksgiving, Nov. 24, 2016 at the Salvation Army in Chambersburg, Pa.

Antrim Faith Baptist Church: Nov. 26, 6 p.m. dinner, 7 p.m. service, 248 W. 2nd Street, Waynesboro.

Greencastle Presbyterian Church and The Life Center: Nov. 28, two seatings - 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 57 W. Baltimore Street, Greencastle.

  • Call ahead to reserve a seat 717-597-8333.
  • Limited delivery available for those unable to drive.

New Guilford BIC Church: Nov. 28, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., 1575 Mont Alto Road, Chambersburg.

  • Church will also provide meals to homebound residents.
  • Call 717-352-2458 by Nov. 26 to request a meal. 

First United Methodist Church: Nov. 28, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Fellowship Hall 11 N. Fayette Street, Mercersburg.

  • Delivery is available for those living in the Tuscarora School District.
  • Volunteer or anyone with questions are directed to call 717-328-2224.

Waynesboro Community & Human Services: Nov. 28, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., 123 Walnut Street Waynesboro.

  • Call 717-762-6941 to sign up for the dinner.
  • Pre-made food can be dropped off at Evangelical Lutheran Church of Waynesboro, from 1 to 4 p.m. on Wed., Nov. 27th or by 10 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
  • Those interested in volunteering are asked to call.

Ebenezer United Brethren Church: Nov. 28, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., 3661 Williamson Road, Greencastle.
