New York approves E15

Biofuels groups are hailing the approval of higher ethanol blends in the nation’s fourth-largest fuel market.

Renewable Fuels Association CEO Geoff Cooper calls the New York Department of Agriculture and Markets’ decision to allow the sale of E15 in the state “great news for New York drivers and great news for American ethanol producers.”

Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor says by transitioning from E10 to E15, New York will lower its carbon emissions the equivalent of removing about 130,000 vehicles from the state’s roads.

American Coalition for Ethanol CEO Brian Jennings also applauded the move.  But he says ACE is disappointed New York appears to be following the footsteps of the EPA in trying to restrict consumer access to mid-level ethanol by prohibiting the sale of 16 to 50 percent blends.

Skor says Growth Energy looks forward to working with retailers across the state to quickly get E15 into the market and establish New York’s continued leadership in low-carbon fuels.
