Report: China wants another meeting

China’s chief trade negotiator has invited his American counterparts for a new round of face-to-face trade talks in Beijing, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The report says Chinese officials would like the meeting to take place next week, but the U.S. side hasn’t committed to a date.

Earlier today, an official of China’s Commerce Ministry denied that talks with the U.S. are breaking down. He said China was committed to working toward an agreement.

However, another possible obstacle emerged this week with congressional approval of a resolution expressing support for human rights in Hong Kong. That drew an angry response from China’s foreign ministry, who promised “countermeasures” if President Trump signs the resolution.
