LMA lauds KC as great home for ERS/NIFA

The Livestock Marketing Association (LMA), based in Kansas City, says it will be a “huge net benefit” to have USDA researchers located in the same city. Chelsea Good, vice president of government and industry says LMA chose to locate in Kansas City because it’s the heart of livestock country.

“We have seen some other sub agencies where they have started to put some key positions a little bit closer and it’s made them more accessible. It’s made it easier to sit down and have an IN-person conversation rather than a phone or an email conversation.”

Good tells Brownfield the ERS and NIFA will be able to recruit more researchers with a farm and ranch background, “They’re PhD economists but they grew up in the Midwest but they want this lifestyle. Those are the type of people who are going to have the skill sets to do the important work that ERS and NIFA does but also do so with a connection with the people that they are serving in terms of the farming and ranching community.”

Good says Kansas City is a great place to live, “We have an amazing cost of living, quality of life and it’s a really exciting town and I’m excited to welcome USDA. They’re already a big part of our community but welcome them in an even bigger way.”

Brownfield interviewed Good in Kansas City at the future new office building for the ERS and NIFA. The LMA represents local livestock sale barns all over the U.S.
