Democrats critical of Market Facilitation Program
Senate Ag Committee Democrats continue to criticize USDA’s Market Facilitation Program.
Minnesota Senator Tina Smith tells Brownfield she’s concerned about how much aid is going to states in the south.
“For example cotton, which hasn’t even seen a price decline this year.”
She says 95 percent of the top county payment rates went to southern farmers.
“That’s why we are pressing for more accountability, and as the next tranche of aid comes out we really want to see if can’t get that more equitably distributed to Midwestern growers.”
Last week, Senate Ag Committee Ranking Member Debbie Stabenow released a report claiming the Market Facilitation Program unfairly benefits big farms and producers in the south.
