’19 a tough year for SE Minnesota farmer

A farmer in southeast Minnesota calls 2019 one tough year.

Mike Steinfeldt of Winona tells Brownfield the growing season started off cold and wet.

“The corn came up slow, we had some emergence issues. And this fall was wet also.”

Steinfeldt is done with harvest and says corn moisture was in the twenties and yields were down.

“But some of our acres we also tried cutting fertilizer to increase profitability on our acres. We had a lot of issues going on.”

He says going 100 percent no-till for the first time this year added another layer of difficulty because it took longer for the soil to warm up.
