Crews battle Santa Clara River fire in Ventura

Fire crews battled a small brush fire Tuesday in the Santa Clara River bottom in Ventura. 

The fire was reported at 11:51 a.m. in the river bottom near Johnson Drive, according to dispatch reporters from the Ventura County Fire Department. 

Crews at the scene reported a 200-foot by 200-foot fire in the river bottom, which is heavily vegetated with arundo donax, a tall invasive reed.

Crews soon requested assistance from an additional fire engine and a helicopter.
