Senators appeal to Trump on SREs issue

ACE CEO Brian Jennings

A group of Midwestern senators is asking President Trump to make sure the EPA’s proposal to account for small refinery exemptions will account for actual gallons waived.

In a letter to Trump, the senators reminded him of the agreement reached during a September meeting at the White House—an agreement they thought had finally resolved the issue.

The letter is signed by Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst of Iowa, Deb Fischer of Nebraska, John Thune and Mike Rounds of South Dakota, and Roy Blunt of Missouri.

The CEO of the American Coalition for Ethanol, Brian Jennings, hopes the White House is listening to those concerns.

“What this is going to boil down to is whether the president and the people surrounding him the White House that are hearing from farmers and biofuel producers and key senators, whether they’re willing to sort of push Andy Wheeler and the EPA bureaucrats to do the right thing,” Jennings says. “So I think that’s ultimately what this is going to come down to.”

Jennings spoke with Brownfield at the recent NAFB convention in Kansas City.
