South Dakota harvest progressing in cool, wet fall

South Dakota farmers are making progress with their late harvest.  USDA reporters say there were just over five days suitable for fieldwork last week, allowing the harvest to continue in below-average temperatures. 

Ninety-five percent of the state’s soybeans are now harvested, which is slightly behind last year.  Seventy-five percent of the sorghum and 49% of sunflowers are harvested.

Winter wheat is doing well so far, with 20% in fair condition, 61% good, and 16% excellent condition.

Fifty-one percent of pastures are in good condition, and 27% are rated excellent.

Moisture levels remain adequate or surplus, with no dry areas reported.
