Illinois harvest on the home stretch

The end is finally in sight for harvest in Illinois with only 20% of corn and 8% of soybeans left in the ground.

The USDA reports just over three days were suitable for fieldwork last week with the average statewide temperature at 26 degrees, nearly 15 degrees below normal.

As of Sunday, corn harvest reached 80% complete compared to 97% on average. Soybean harvest is 92% complete, only six percentage points behind average.

Only one percent of winter wheat is left to be planted and 85% of the crop has emerged.
