USDA: 76% of U.S. corn, 91% of soybeans harvested

Last week was another slow week overall for U.S. corn and soybean harvest activity.

It’s generally been a tough year for producers, with an historically slow planting pace, a wide variety of weather during the growing season, and periodic outbreaks of winter-like conditions in parts of the Midwest and Plains during harvest.

The USDA says 76% of U.S. corn has been harvested as of Sunday, compared to 66% a week ago and the five-year average of 92%, while 91% of soybeans are harvested, compared to 85% last week and 95% on average.

95% of winter wheat is planted, matching the normal pace, and 83% has emerged, compared to 86% typically, with 52% of the crop in good to excellent shape, down 2% on the week and 4% below last year.

68% of cotton is harvested, compared to 66% on average.

New USDA supply, demand, and production numbers are out December 10th.
