Portion of Zionsville Road near I-465 expected to reopen soon after nearly 8 months

Commuters rejoice — after a nearly eight-month closure, a portion of Zionsville Road near I-465 is expected to reopen to traffic in December.

The closure of the road began in April, due to the widening of a one-mile section of Zionsville Road. The project changed it from two lanes to three lanes by widening existing lanes and adding a center turn lane between Technology Center Drive, which is just south of I-465, and 106th Street.

The project also included the addition of a 10-foot multiuse pathway along both sides of the road from the Inglenook subdivision and Zionsville Cemetery, north to 106th Street.

The final phase of construction will begin in the spring of 2020. However, town officials said spring construction is not expected to result in long-term re-closures.
