Perdue says MFP payments are fairly distributed

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says Market Facilitation Program payments are being fairly distributed.

Perdue told farm broadcasters Friday that the process for determining MFP payment rates will not be changing and contrary to a recent report from the senate ag committee, Perdue says farmers who need the most help are getting it.

“Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota. They are in the top five as far as the money goes out.”

In reference to the report, Perdue said..

“This is nothing more than a political conversation again trying to bash the administration.”

Perdue says MFP payments are helping farmers continue to move forward during the trade war and he understands growers prefer money from the scales and not the mailbox.

“And that is why it has been sort of unfulfilling of having to rely on those market facilitation payments, but we don’t want to have to rely on them permanently. I am not encouraging anyone to expect a 2020 payment.”

Perdue and National Association of Farm Broadcasting President Lorrie Boyer discussed key ag issues at the NAFB Convention in Kansas City.
