DELTA TWP. – The Houlihan's restaurant in the Lansing Mall has closed its doors, the restaurant announced Tuesday morning via social media.

Lansing Mall opened in 1969. It cost $18 million to build. The mall's owner spent $30 million in 2002 to renovate the complex, according to its website.

"Making the decision to close a restaurant is always the last option," company officials wrote in a Facebook post. "Houlihan’s Lansing was challenged with high rent and increased operating costs, which ultimately led us to the difficult to decision to close."

In a posting on the social media site, the Delta Charter Township restaurant said its last day of operation was on Monday and the Facebook page lists the location as "permanently closed" as of noon Tuesday.

The Facebook notice did not state how many people were employed at the restaurant's Lansing Mall, but said the company was working to move some employees to other Houlihan's locations and is contacting competitors on employees' behalves.

Houlihan's and the Lansing Mall did not respond to a request for comment.
