Police identify man killed in downtown Lansing early Sunday morning

LANSING — Police have identified the Lansing man killed in a shooting on Michigan Avenue early Sunday morning.

The man, Demetrius Merrill Wright, 42, was pronounced dead during the initial investigation. The shooting took place on the 400 block of East Michigan Avenue at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday, a Lansing Police Department release states. 

There is no ongoing threat to the public.

The shooting occurred during an altercation involving multiple people. Wright was first to pull a trigger, police said. He shot a 21-year-old Lansing man, who was injured but in stable condition. He was then shot by another man.

Police had not identified Wright's shooter as of Monday morning.

Detectives are still investigating the homicide.
