Lions' Hockenson: No lasting effects from 'clean' hit by Raiders' Harris

Allen Park — The hit knocked him out of the game and may have momentarily sent him out of sorts, but T.J. Hockenson said Wednesday there’s no hard feelings and no lasting effects from Sunday.

The rookie tight end brought his hands to his head after a hit from Oakland’s Erik Harris on Detroit’s final drive, but Hockenson avoided another brain injury after already suffering his first one earlier this season.

“I was just trying to check everything out and see what was going on,” Hockenson said about his actions after the play. “It was a clean hit, I think. Just part of football.”

The hit to the back by Harris, which caused Hockenson’s head to hit the Oakland Coliseum grass, prompted Lions medical staff to evaluate Hockenson for a concussion. However, Lions coach Matt Patricia said Monday that he was cleared of any lingering injury.

Hockenson was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice.

The eighth pick of the draft suffered a concussion after attempting to hurdle a Kansas City player on Sept. 29.

On Sunday, Hockenson sized up two Oakland defensive players after making two catches, appearing to be angling toward more leaping attempts in the 31-24 loss.

“The first one, I should’ve,” Hockenson said. “The second one, I figured if he was going to go low again, I was going to, but then he didn’t.”

Hockenson was targeted seven times by quarterback Matthew Stafford, catching three balls for 56 yards. The targets and yards were the most since his breakout in Week 1 when he had six catches for 131 yards and two touchdowns against Arizona.
