Sexual assault, kidnapping suspect wanted by Farmington police

FARMINGTON — The Farmington Police Department is searching for a kidnapping and sexual assault suspect who fled a residence before officers could serve a search warrant.

Waylon Johnson, 44, is wanted by law enforcement and accused of kidnapping, criminal sexual penetration and aggravated battery against a household member, according to a Farmington Police Department press release.

Officers were dispatched around 6:53 a.m. on Nov. 5 to the 1100 block of South Bowen Avenue on reports of a fight.

Police learned that Johnson allegedly sexually assaulted, kidnapped and battered a woman. The suspect was said to be inside a residence and armed with a bat.

Negotiators were unable to make contact with Johnson by phone.

The man was not in the residence when the SWAT and K9 officers entered the home with a search warrant.

The police activity at the residence led officers to block off traffic in the area of South Randolph Avenue and South Bowen Avenue around 7:50 a.m. to about 10:49 a.m., according to Farmington police social media accounts.

Residents were advised to remain in their homes if they lived in the area, and those who could not return to their homes were directed to the Sycamore Park Community Center.

Farmington police are asking anyone with information on Johnson's whereabouts to call non-emergency dispatch at 505-334-6622 or San Juan County Crime Stoppers at 505-334-8477.
