Troy, Livonia named among top 10 US cities for retirees

Hometown Life

Two metro Detroit communities have been named among the top cities in the United States in which to retire, according to a new list from ChamberofCommerce.org.

Troy, located in Oakland County, was named the sixth best city in the nation for retirees. The city was praised for its "low crime, great residential neighborhoods and quirky local character," boosting it into the top retirement destination in the Great Lakes region.

Livonia ranked eighth, and was called the "quintessential Michigan suburb,” noting the great neighborhoods, abundant recreational opportunities geared toward older residents, high number of seniors, and reasonable monthly housing cost.

“With nearly a quarter of Livonia’s population being 65 or older, retirees in the city never feel out of place,” said the Chamber of Commerce report.
