Aloha All,
Happy Halloween! This is my favorite holiday outside of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) which is celebrated from October 31st through November 2nd! These are a couple of my pictures from Dia de los Muertos in Las Cruces, NM 2010.
Of course I had to have my face painted in honor of the day
The stitch of the day is celebrating Autumn, an Acorn Darning pattern. Think of all the squirrels collecting them for their winter store!
And, I found this Woven Trellis Variation while going through my computer files you can enjoy it too.
This is a great stitch with no real direction. It can be used in many different ways, stitch a sample with a couple of threads and you will see how you can use it yourself.
Next up is my class with Julia Snyder at Wool & Willow Needlepoint in Cleveland Heights, OH. Julia came to visit in the middle of October, teaching two days of Embellishment Classes and the final day was her Ribbon Embroidery “Spring has Flung” Class. I must say it was a terrific experience. We learned several Ribbon techniques including Bullion Knots with Ribbon, which really did make a lovely flower. She is such a bright, energetic lady who loves to teach. I highly recommend Julia’s classes, she takes time with all levels of stitchers and demonstrates the stitches from her class pieces.
The piece fits perfectly into an HP lacquer box.
Amy works and teaches beginning needlepoint classes at Wool & Willow.
Lis also teaches classes at Wool & Willow. If you are interested Lis is teaching a great Associated Talents Starfish on November 5th, call Wool & Willow at 216-791-7952.
These are a handful of the stitchers that were in the class.
The fun news is that Julia will be coming back Spring of 2015 to teach Melissa Shirley Designs, “Garden Party”, by artist Vicki Sawyer!
This a close up of a few of the birds in the canvas that Julia has Stitch Guided.
This looks like such a fun piece to stitch and the photos never do the piece justice, it was fabulous in person. I will keep you posted when dates have been set for this class.
Well folks that is all the news for today. Next post will include pictures of Louise’s Needlepoint in Columbus, OH. I have been getting around lately
