14% of corn, 58% of soybeans harvested in South Dakota

South Dakota farmers remain weeks behind normal as wet weather continues to slow harvest.

The latest crop progress report from USDA shows just 14 percent of the state’s corn acres have been harvested.  That’s nearly 30 percent behind last year and 32 percent slower than the five-year average.

Soybean harvest, at 58 percent complete, is 15 percent behind a year ago and way off the usual pace of 90 percent for late October.

The emergence of winter wheat is ahead of last year and close to average at 84 percent.

Seventy-eight percent of winter wheat is rated good to excellent.
