Soybean yields better than expected

Central Indiana Farmer Mike Beard says his soybean yields are better than he expected after the wet spring and dry summer.

“From my expectations last June, these soybeans are a lot better than I expected but they’re not going to set any records and will probably miss average,” he says. “I was shooting for about 60 percent of average and I think they’re going to be 80+ percent of my average.”

He tells Brownfield he hasn’t started harvesting corn yet, but the crop is looking below average.

“I’ve not ventured into the corn except to walk into it and I didn’t want to walk very far because it didn’t look very good,” he says.

He says he needs the rain and wind to hold off and mild temperatures to wrap up harvest.

Beard grows corn and soybeans in Clinton County.
