Photos of car that rear-ends logging truck look like horror scene, driver rescued alive

A Georgia driver walked away with only minor injuries after logs from a truck smashed through his front windshield.

The accident happened Oct. 11 on Cleveland Highway in Whitfield County, near the border with Tennessee,  as the unidentified driver was traveling behind a truck carrying logs. Whitfield County Fire Chief Edward O'Brien told CNN the driver dropped something and had reached down to get it when he rear-ended the truck.

When fire department crews arrived on the scene, the driver was trapped with just a little space between the logs and his face, according to Battalion Chief Chris Dempsey.  Firefighters cut 30 to 40 logs to gain access to the driver's side of the vehicle and then used extraction equipment to remove the side of the car, Dempsey said.

The driver was then able to get out of the car on his own with only minor injuries to his upper torso area, Dempsey said. The extraction took only about 10 or 15 minutes.

The department posted images of the crash on its Facebook page, which have since been shared 20,000 times, with many comments comparing the photos to a scene from the horror movie "Final Destination."

Dempsey said he has never seen a crash quite like this one:

"In 27 years this is the first one I had ever seen."
