Nothing has been the same for Dorethea Elliott or her three children since her fiancé was murdered in in York.

L.A. Truvillion Sr., she wrote in a victim-impact statement, was a sweet person whom loved ones could depend on. He was a wonderful father. But now, he will never get to see his children grow up.

He was 25.

“Imagine having three kids who never been away from their dad more than 24 hours,” Elliott said, “to one day having to tell them they will never see their dad again.”

During the trial, Johnson testified that he acted in self-defense. But a jury took about 1 1/2 hours to find otherwise, convicting him of first-degree murder.

When asked whether he wanted to make a statement, Johnson looked at one of his attorneys, shook his head and replied, “No.” He must pay almost $8,200 in restitution.

“As your honor is well aware, it’s a mandatory life sentence,” said Rick Robinson, Johnson’s trial attorney. “Sentencing is rather a formality at this point.”

Korey Leslie, Johnson’s appellate attorney, said he met and spoke with his client about the appeals process.
