Beware: DUI checkpoints, patrols set for Halloween; police looking for aggressive drivers

Police will be on the lookout this Halloween for anyone driving under the influence or being aggressive behind the wheel. 

Sobriety checkpoints and roving DUI patrols are planned in Adams, Lancaster and York counties, according to a news release from the Center for Traffic Safety.

It's part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement blitz that started Oct. 18 and will run through Halloween, the release states.

Police also will be focusing on underage drinking for Halloween. Anyone under the age of 21 cannot attempt to buy, purchase, consume, possess or transport alcoholic beverages. Penalties can include suspension of a driver's license for months or years.

Adults also cannot legally provide alcohol to minors. That includes their own children, the release states. Adults face fines of $1,000 for the first minor and $2,500 for any subsequent minors.

Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies also are looking for aggressive driving behaviors as part of an enforcement wave that started Monday and runs through Nov. 17.

Some of the things police will be watching for include school bus violations, speeding, tailgating and failing to move over for emergency vehicles. Tickets will be issued.

The goal of the enforcement wave is to reduce crashes, injuries and deaths on roads throughout the state, the release states.
