Man charged with DUI for causing crash that severely injured 2 on I-83

A Baltimore man was charged with two felonies and three misdemeanors related to a Thursday evening crash in York County that left two people severely injured, charging documents state.

Johthan Murray, 29, was charged Friday with two felony counts of aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, one felony count of accident involving death/person injury – not properly licensed and single misdemeanor charges of false identification to law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and DUI.

State police say Murray was intoxicated when the U-Haul van he was driving left its lane on I-83 northbound near Queen Street and struck two vehicles.

A passenger in Murray’s van suffered a crushed pelvis as well as internal injuries and a broken leg. The driver of one of the other vehicles sustained a broken neck and might be paralyzed, police say.

Murray gave a false name to three state troopers and was taken to PSP York when he couldn’t produce any identification. He refused to sit on a bench at the station when told to do so by troopers, and swung his elbows and resisted arrest when forced to sit, court documents say.

Troopers were forced to get a search warrant to do a blood test when Murray refused.

Murray is in York County Prison after he failed to post $50,000 bail.
