Petition drive supports bringing whole milk back to school

A petition to bring whole milk back to school children is gaining support.  The petition by Grassroots Citizens for Whole Milk for Healthy Kids has more than 56-hundred signatures so far, asking Congress and President Trump to support legislation in the House and Senate to allow whole milk on school menus.

Schools and daycare centers have not been able to serve whole milk since Federal Dietary Guidelines began requiring 1% or fat-free milk in 2008.  Whole milk has 3.25% fat.

Researchers have been supporting whole milk consumption for nutritional value, higher vitamin D levels, and milk’s natural ability to help children feel full, keeping them focused in school.
