Iowa farmer sees soybean moisture drop 3 points Friday

A north-central Iowa farmer is taking advantage of sunshine and wind.

Speaking to Brownfield Friday afternoon, Josh Nelson of Belmond says they began harvesting soybeans that morning at 17 percent moisture.

“It’s since dried down to 14, which is pretty close to our target moisture of 13 percent to bin them.”

He says a 3-point drop in a matter of hours is unusual.

“It shows you the wonders of what good wind and sun can do, but it also shows the unevenness of the field when things were maturing.”

Nelson says they should be wrapped up with soybeans in a few days if the weather cooperates.  He describes yields as a little disappointing.
