USDA says Plum Pox eradicated

The USDA has declared the United States free from Plum Pox virus.

USDA Under Secretary Greg Ibach says the 20-year fight against the disease which harms yields of stone fruits such as plums, peaches and almonds is finally over.

USDA’s APHIS and its partners eradicated the disease from Pennsylvania and Michigan in 2006. The last remaining quarantined area was western New York but no more detections had been found by the end of 2018.

The U.S. is the only country to have eradicated plum pox and programs remain in place to keep it out.
