NCGA not pleased with EPA biofuels proposal

The National Corn Growers Association’s 1st Vice President says the EPA biofuels blending proposal released Tuesday is not what they were hoping for.  John Linder tells Brownfield the EPA didn’t deliver what President Trump promised. “The President said it, so we need to try to engage and get him to hold the EPA accountable on this.”

Linder says corn farmers appreciate the EPA’s efforts to follow the law, but he says President Trump made it clear he wants to reach 15 billion gallons blended and EPA appears to have short-sighted that goal. “There’s a miss here. We need to get this addressed. We need to address the lost gallons. That’s hurting farmers, that’s hurting ethanol plants, and to leave them out of any rulemaking going forward, it gives us no assurance that they really have the desire to follow through with the President’s plan.”

Linder says he hopes farmers stay engaged with NCGA to keep telling the Trump Administration and EPA officials where the proposed rule falls short. “Sometimes we don’t feel like they’ve got the answer that we’re looking for, and yet they seem to waffle a little bit, so we’re still hopeful that in the further process of the rules going forward that there is a possibility, but this certainly doesn’t give you a warm fuzzy at this point.”

The EPA will hold another hearing on the proposed biofuels blending proposal October 30th in Michigan.
