EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A major waterline replacement project is planned for Broadway Avenue over the next several months.

It involves installing more than 11,000 feet of new 6-inch to 12-inch piping along Broadway between South Red Bank Road and Schutte Road, and on Frey Road from Broadway to the end of the public roadway.

The $2.7 million project starts later this month, with completion expected in July 2020. BMB Inc. of Newburgh is the contractor hired by the Evansville Water & Sewer Utility.

The project's purpose is to replace aging infrastructure and improve water distribution in the area, said Brian Fox, project manager with American Structurepoint.

The contractor will be able to work in multiple areas at one time, Fox said.

Officials said to expect occasional road closures throughout the project. An Evansville Water & Sewer Utility website, RefreshEvansville.com, will have a page dedicated to updates on the Broadway project.

Short water shut-offs for nearby residents also are possible. Officials said residents will receive notices about those whenever possible.
