Harvest behind in Minnesota sugarbeet country
Harvest is behind in the heart of Minnesota’s sugarbeet country.
Noah Hultgren grows beets, soybeans, corn and alfalfa near Raymond in the west-central part of the state.
“Our co-op just started to pull harvest last Monday and we were able to go till Thursday at 4 o’clock, then everything shut down (because) of the rain and eventually snow.”
He tells Brownfield the harvest pace for mid-October is typically 25 to 30 percent ahead of where area farmers are currently at.
Hultgren was back in the field Tuesday morning.
“Dealing with a lot of mud and not real fun conditions, but we’re going anyway.”
He describes the crop as a mixed bag and says he could still be harvesting beets in November.
