22% of U.S. corn, 26% of U.S. soybeans harvested

Last week was another slow week for U.S. corn and soybean development and harvest activity. Both crops have struggled with occasionally adverse weather conditions from planting through harvest, which have pulled production, yield, and acreage estimates below the USDA’s initial projections.

The USDA says 96% of U.S. corn has dented as of Sunday, that phase is usually over by now, with 73% of the crop mature, compared to the five-year average of 92%, and 22% of the crop harvested, compared to 36% on average. 55% of corn is rated good to excellent, down 1% on the week.

For soybeans, 85% of the crop is dropping leaves, compared to 93% normally, and 26% is harvested, compared to 49% on average. 54% of U.S. beans are in good to excellent condition, up 1% from a week ago.

65% of winter wheat is planted, matching the usual pace, and 41% is harvested, a little faster than average.

94% of spring wheat is harvested. Activity is usually wrapped up by mid-October.

87% of cotton bolls have opened, compared to 83% typically this time of year, and 32% is harvested, compared to 27% on average, with 38% of the crop called good to excellent, a week to week gain of 1%.

87% of rice is harvested, compared to 88% on average.

43% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are rated good to excellent, 2% less than last week.
