Boone County jail: Man hid cocaine in his pants, then spit it into the face of officers

An Indianapolis man taken into custody by Boone County deputies for a suspended license could be facing more severe charges after police said he spit cocaine into the faces of jail officials during his booking.

Around 11 p.m. Monday, a Boone County sheriff's deputy arrived at the jail with 34-year-old Kevin Lampley. According to a news release, Lampley had been arrested on a charge of driving while suspended with a prior conviction.

During the jail intake process, Lampley was escorted to the jail body scanner, where he was scanned for hidden contraband, illegal substances and weapons. Police said an unidentified object was seen in Lampley's pants during the scan.

Officers then took Lampley into the changing area. Once inside, jail officials said they saw Lampley take two clear baggies containing a white powdery substance from his pants and place them in his mouth.

Officers approached Lampley to detain him and take the baggies, police said. But they say Lampley fought back and spit the substance into their faces.

Once Lampley was brought under control, medics were called to the jail to check Lampley and three Boone County Sheriff’s Office employees. They were later all taken to a local medical facility because of their exposure to the substance.

The white powdery substance tested positive as cocaine, police said. The incident remains under investigation.
