SAN ANGELO — Two vacant Chadbourne Street buildings could soon have new occupants.

On Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019, the San Angelo City Council unanimously approved Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone funding for four properties on North Chadbourne Street, two of which are vacant — 1816 and 1822 N. Chadbourne.

The unoccupied building at 1816 N. Chadbourne will become a salon called "The Gentleman," which was approved to receive $75,000 in TIRZ funding. The money will go to make improvements to the facade of the building with new windows, doors, awnings, siding, paint and signage as well as asbestos abatement, landscaping and re-sealing and re-striping the parking lot, according to a council report.

Senor Changs, 502 N. Van Buren, started as a food truck and has since expanded to the building. The restaurant will open its doors to the public in the coming weeks.

At 1822 N. Chadbourne, the vacant building that once was a Stripes Store, will become the new location for Senor Changs. City Council approved TIRZ funding in the amount of  $74,905 to make improvements to the facade with new windows, doors, awnings, siding, paint and signage and new landscaping, according to a council report.

Harry Thomas, District 3 city councilman, expressed his support for the funding.

"Getting people into empty buildings puts money in the tax rolls," Thomas said.

The motion passed unanimously.

The two other properties that received TIRZ funding were 2934 N. Chadbourne St. currently occupied by Dollar General and 1715 N. Chadbourne.

Applicants who request tax incentive funding in excess of $10,000 are required to match funding in the amount of 25%.
