Congress returns with ag work to do

Congress has returned from its two-week break with work still to do: the USMCA, and, budget and tax issues that affect agriculture.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has said impeachment proceedings won’t impact work being done on the US Mexico Canada Agreement. Democrats are working with US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer on measures they want in the deal to enforce labor and environmental standards.

The biodiesel industry is hoping for an extension of its expired $1-dollar per gallon tax credit.

Congress passed a stopgap spending bill that runs out after November 21st and there is no agreement yet on agency funding measures for fiscal year 2020.
