Metallica

Heavy metal arrives at the place known for heavy metal, well a different version at least.

Metallica recently was announced as the headliner for Welcome to Rockville next year at Daytona International Speedway. Welcome to Rockville was an outdoor music festival that ran from 2011 to 2019.

The 2020 version is May 8-10, with a layaway plan available. Passes are on sale and prices will gradually increase as the festival nears.

No other bands have been announced, but in the past, Welcome to Rockville has brought mainly heavy metal acts to the festival. During the same weekend of Rockville, the same bands on different dates performed at Fort Rock in Fort Myers that ran from 2013 to 2017 that left many Southwest Florida rock fans disappointed.

Chris Cornell of Soundgarden performed at the final Fort Rock in 2017 before his death just a few weeks later in Detroit.

Chris Cornell performs with his band Soundgarden at Fort Rock Music Festival on April 30, 2017 outside JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida.

Fort Rock moved to Fort Lauderdale in 2018, the last year of the festival.

Metallica is one of the most successful and beloved heavy metal bands of all time, with its big hits including "Enter Sandman," "Nothing Else Matters," "Whiskey in the Jar," "Until It Sleeps" and one of the band's newer hits, "Now That We're Dead."

The San Francisco-based band entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.

Brian Robert Jones and Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend perform on day 3 of Lollapalooza at Grant Park on August 4, 2018 in Chicago, Illinois.

Okeechobee Music Fest

Tickets are on sale for the Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival at Sunshine Grove, Okeechobee.

The festival is March 5-8 and headliners include Vampire Weekend, Mumford & Sons, Bassnectar, St. Paul and the Broken Bones and Sublime with Rome. The event has been held from 2016 to 2018 on more than 600 acres at 12517 NE, Okeechobee. There was no festival in 2019.

Ticket prices and packages vary and more information is found at okeechobeefest.com.

On its website, the festival proclaims that the four-day event "goes beyond the average music festival."

"Each year, our community of Okeechobeeings comes together to live, laugh, listen, sing, dance, learn, create, meditate, downward-dog, eat & drink, explore, and give back," the website reads.

"We see no boundaries in what we can create together, and neither should you."

Legendary salsa singer Marc Anthony performs Jan. 27, 2019, in Orlando.
