I made DIY Ollie Dog Treats over the weekend, just like I said I would!

It was a simple project because I only used three ingredients…

You were so on point! I used 1/4 of a cup and then because I decided to add an egg (my Nana always said eggs were essential for baking) I sprinkled just a teeny tiny bit more.

The food formed nicely, and I loved how the pieces of human grade food remained in tack!…

Even though Ollie dog food had most all of the ingredients prepared for me, I still worked under a great deal of pressure. Glares and stares haunted me from the edges of the kitchen island…

For a fleeting moment I thought about letting the mixture cool for me to roll it out and use my puppy cookie cutter, but I’m telling you the looks were frightening.

They wanted to taste test these bad boys ASAP…

CROCKPOT MEATBALLS – 

As I “hand” rolled spoon size pieces for the cookie sheet, I thought about those crockpot meatballs we’ve all made for a party at one time of another.

Halfway through I was tempted to drop two just to make them go away…

Without a recipe to follow – I heated the oven to 350 degrees and assessed fifteen minutes would allow the egg time to cook. 

There was no need to set the timer, Harley was definitely on watch…

When I removed them from the oven, I could see one side had started to brown (just like those crockpot meatballs!)…

TASTE TESTING TIME – 

They cooled quickly, and I held my breath as I served my special guests. Once upon a time, a long, long, time ago – I tried to create a tasty treat for Harley. 

He wouldn’t eat it! I almost cried.

How does one fail making a treat for a dog?

Still not sure, but I have certainly –

been there, done that and wear the everlasting emotional scars

So imagine my fear of reliving what the therapist and lots of wine had locked away when Harley stared at my treat in his bowl…

Jaxson inhaled his, but that doesn’t count. Jaxson inhaled socks once.

When Harley did eat it – he seemed to enjoy it because he licked the bowl AND his lips afterwards.

I’m pretty sure he paused those three excruating minutes on purpose – just to mess with my already “lack of pet baking culinary” confidence.

TAKING IT TO THE STREETS – 

Still unsure of how they really tasted, I took my treats to the streets.

Meet Miles…

Miles moved in next door about three weeks ago. Very much a puppy, the Boys and I are patiently waiting for him to have all his vaccinations before we invite him over to play.

I needed an unbiased opinion on my treats, and I was counting on Miles to give it to me. 

He loved them…
