I MADE DIY OLLIE DOG TREATS

I made DIY Ollie Dog Treats over the weekend, just like I said I would!

It was a simple project because I only used three ingredients…

Had no idea Coconut flour was so expensive #justsaying

Thanks to the many of you who reached out and confirmed my decision to use Coconut flour as a “binder.” Thanks for advising me to go slow when adding…

This flour goes a long way. I only used a little more than 14 cup.

You were so on point! I used 1/4 of a cup and then because I decided to add an egg (my Nana always said eggs were essential for baking) I sprinkled just a teeny tiny bit more.

The food formed nicely, and I loved how the pieces of human grade food remained in tack!…

Can you see the green peas, the sweet potatoes, the beef?

Even though Ollie dog food had most all of the ingredients prepared for me, I still worked under a great deal of pressure. Glares and stares haunted me from the edges of the kitchen island…

No one should have to cook under this degree of pressure.

For a fleeting moment I thought about letting the mixture cool for me to roll it out and use my puppy cookie cutter, but I’m telling you the looks were frightening.

They wanted to taste test these bad boys ASAP

Abort the cookie cutter – go fast – make meatballs!

CROCKPOT MEATBALLS –

As I “hand” rolled spoon size pieces for the cookie sheet, I thought about those crockpot meatballs we’ve all made for a party at one time of another.

Halfway through I was tempted to drop two just to make them go away…

I felt like a contestant on a cooking show #Chopped

Without a recipe to follow – I heated the oven to 350 degrees and assessed fifteen minutes would allow the egg time to cook.

There was no need to set the timer, Harley was definitely on watch…

Who needs a timer when you’ve got a Harley?

When I removed them from the oven, I could see one side had started to brown (just like those crockpot meatballs!)…

Viola!

TASTE TESTING TIME –

They cooled quickly, and I held my breath as I served my special guests. Once upon a time, a long, long, time ago – I tried to create a tasty treat for Harley.

He wouldn’t eat it! I almost cried.

How does one fail making a treat for a dog?

Still not sure, but I have certainly –

been there, done that and wear the everlasting emotional scars

So imagine my fear of reliving what the therapist and lots of wine had locked away when Harley stared at my treat in his bowl…

If he doesn’t eat this, I’m a fall out on this kitchen floor like a toddler!

Jaxson inhaled his, but that doesn’t count. Jaxson inhaled socks once.

When Harley did eat it – he seemed to enjoy it because he licked the bowl AND his lips afterwards.

I’m pretty sure he paused those three excruating minutes on purpose – just to mess with my already “lack of pet baking culinary” confidence.

TAKING IT TO THE STREETS –

Still unsure of how they really tasted, I took my treats to the streets.

Meet Miles…

I need Miles to eat my meatball treat!

Miles moved in next door about three weeks ago. Very much a puppy, the Boys and I are patiently waiting for him to have all his vaccinations before we invite him over to play.

I needed an unbiased opinion on my treats, and I was counting on Miles to give it to me.

He loved them…

Now DAT’S what I’m talking bout! #dropthemic

…and now I’m looking for a chef’s hat on Etsy!

Glad your baking was a success. We were expecting some type of cookies and were not sure how you would do that, but meatballs makes a lot more sense with using the food.

I kept thinking about my favorite pup-baker Emma the entire time I was cooking! Oh how I miss her and all her fabulous recipes. Madison are you going to start baking this winter?

What a labor of love! I’m sure they are a hit with all puppers! As soon as Miles is vaccinated, I bet the three of the will be fast friends. Cabo loves meeting new friends when we walk. He has quite a few girlfriends already in the neighborhood!

The treats were a hit, and I just might try some other things now that I’ve got my confidence up! Yes – Miles has been suffering terribly with the Boys right next door yet no access to them. For Harley and Jaxson – they are so busy going to work and hanging out they look at him for a few seconds and then they just hop in the car with no regards to his feelings. Perhaps this weekend we will have a meet and greet 🙂

They’re almost gone, so a fresh batch is in their future!

Those treats look pretty darn ‘wagnificent!’ Elsa even tried to lick the screen.

They’re almost gone. I’ve got a few left and that will be treats for later this evening. Looks like I might have to “whip” up a batch this weekend!

You call it an audience, I call it pressure LOL
      Take care my friend 🙂
