Crash closes lanes on Highway 101 southbound near Highway 126 in Ventura

Two accidents slowed traffic on southbound Highway 101 through Ventura for a time Sunday afternoon.

The first, involving a motorcycle and a Mazda sedan, was reported around 2:36 p.m. south of the Seaward Avenue exit, according to Ventura County Fire Department and California Highway Patrol reports.

All lanes were closed as emergency crews loaded a patient into an ambulance. Lanes had reopened by 2:55 p.m., but southbound traffic remained backed up through the city. The accident resulted in major injuries, CHP logs showed.

 A separate accident on southbound freeway was reported around 4:38 p.m. south of the State Beaches ramp north of Ventura. Firefighters reported up to five vehicles were involved, though no significant injuries were reported. Traffic heading into Ventura remained backed up for more than an hour.
