FFT: more work to be done in US-China trade dispute

The co-executive director of Farmers for Free Trade says the news that the US and China have reached a tentative agreement is a “break in the clouds,” but tariffs continue to hurt the agriculture industry.

Brian Kuehl says they are pleased tariffs aren’t going up, but the agreement doesn’t address the tariffs farmers currently face. He adds that the promise of additional ag purchases is welcome news but there are a lot of questions to be answered about timeline, price, and commodities.

Kuehl says long-term sustainable markets are what farmers really need and he hopes that both sides will build on this progress to end the trade war.
