Minnesota farmer believes Trump has soft spot for farmers

A Minnesota crop and livestock producer says he believes President Trump has a soft spot for farmers.

And Shayne Isane of Badger tells Brownfield a conversation he had with Ag Secretary Perdue in August substantiates that belief.

“(Perdue) really mentioned the fact that he’s really surprised by the amount of attention that our President gives to agriculture and to farmers, and wants us taken care of. (Secretary Perdue) said it’s something new at a national level like the Presidency to get that much attention.”

But Isane, a Minnesota Farm Bureau board director, says he understands why some farmers are frustrated with the Administration.

“I think he genuinely does care about us farmers, but he really needs to kind of prove it by getting this China deal done. And if he can pull through like he says he’s going to, I think farmers will be right back in support of him.”

Isane says there seems to be a more positive tone to the latest round of trade negotiations between the U.S. and China and hopes the end of the trade war is near.
