Two Frederick, Maryland, men are accused of attempting to kill multiple police officers during a pursuit early Wednesday in Chambersburg.

Rayshard Young, 21, and Samuel Throne, 22, are both in Franklin County Jail, denied bail. They are both charged with 17 counts, including four counts each of attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer and attempted aggravated assault. Young is also charged with drug possession with intent to deliver, and Throne is charged with an attempted count of the same.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, two troopers were on patrol on Wayne Avenue around 3:40 a.m. Wednesday when they saw a black Kia Spectra following another vehicle too closely. The Spectra then crossed travel lanes multiple times. It fled north in the direction of the borough at a high rate of speed as the troopers pursued it.

The troopers attempted a pursuit intervention technique, or PIT maneuver, to end the pursuit. The driver of the vehicle, Throne, slowed down directly behind the patrol vehicle. He then sped up and rammed the rear of the patrol vehicle, disabling the Kia, police said in court documents.

Throne took off running. Young remained in the vehicle. He retrieved a 9mm handgun, and could be seen "actively" trying to load a round into the chamber as a trooper approached him, according to court documents. He complied with a trooper's command to drop the weapon.

Police later determined the gun was stolen. Searching the vehicle, police also found "sizable" amounts of U.S. currency and "fresh" marijuana, and digital scales.

In addition to the counts previously mentioned, Throne and Young are charged with receiving stolen property, possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, fleeing and summary traffic violations. Throne is charged with DUI, and Young is charged with carrying a firearm without a license.

Both defendants are scheduled to appear at preliminary hearings at 1 p.m. Oct. 22 in Franklin County Central Court.
