New Mexico and Texas Patriot Guard Riders will escort airman's remains

The New Mexico and Texas Patriot Guard Riders will be escorting the remains of Air Force Airman First Class Jacob Aaron Blackburn from El Paso to Alamogordo on Thursday.

The groups have released more details of the procession for those who want to pay their respects.

Jacob A. Blackburn died Sept. 30 in a car accident on Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany.

The family had encouraged veterans, military and anyone in the El Paso and New Mexico community to honor their son, who died in Germany Sept. 30, by lining the path, as his remains are escorted from the El Paso International Airport to Hamilton O’Dell Funeral Home in Alamogordo, New Mexico.

Details of the designated pathway:

The remains are expected to arrive at the airport at 9 p.m. Thursday.

The Texas Patriot Guard Riders will take route from the airport, merging onto Airway Boulevard northbound to Spur 601. The procession will continue westbound on Highway 54 North to Edge of TX where the New Mexico Guard riders will meet them.

The New Mexico riders will then continue up Highway 54, go down White Sands Boulevard, down 1st street to the funeral home, 1334 N Scenic Drive in Alamogordo.

The area near the Edge of Texas Restaurant will be a high-profile area with firetrucks, veteran and local civilians honoring the airman, according to the organization.

People who line the road can use their vehicle's emergency flashes as the procession approaches and then turn them off.
