Summer is over, and autumn is here. So before you break out the Jack 'o' lanterns, pumpkin spice lattes and Halloween costumes, take a look at some of the events happening around the region. 

Thursday, Oct. 3

Harrisburg Book Festival — Harrisburg 

The Midtown Scholar Bookstore hosts the 7th annual Harrisburg Book Festival from Thursday, Oct. 3 through Sunday, Oct. 6. The four-day festival features book readings from nearly 20 internationally recognized authors. For more information, visit hbhbookfest.com or call 717-236-1680. 

Friday, Oct. 4

First Friday — downtown York 

Downtown Inc. hosts First Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. This month's edition includes: 

  • Live music from Carman Bryant in Continental Square from 5 to 7 p.m. 
  • YWCA York Walk a Mile in Her Shoes 
  • First Friday film fest at Capitol Theatre at 6:30 p.m. 
  • Halloween costume contest at Royal Square District
  • Strangelove Vaudeville Sideshow Spectacular at The Dark Parlour at 7 p.m.

Farm to Table Harvest Festival at The Markets — Shrewsbury 

The Markets at Shrewsbury host the Farm to Table Harvest Festival from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, Oct., 4 through 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5. Saturday, Oct. 5

Bridge Bust on the Veterans Memorial Bridge — Wrightsville/Columbia 

The 31st annual Bridge Bust takes over the Veterans Memorial Bridge from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The annual arts and crafts celebration features nearly 300 vendors. For more information, visit the event's Facebook page

Collusion Tap Works Chili Cook-off — downtown York 

Collusion Tap Works hosts the annual Chili Cook-Off from noon to 3 p.m. Attendees can try chili from 15 contestants, and all proceeds benefit the York County Food Bank. For more information, visit the event's Facebook page or call 717-848-8400. 

Harrisburg Flea Market — Harrisburg 

Midtown Cinema hosts the HBG Flea from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This marks the last flea market of the season. For more information, visit hbgflea.com.

Lancaster City ArtWalk — downtown Lancaster 

The self-guided Lancaster City ArtWalk features nearly three dozen destinations and galleries including artist meet-and-greets and family-friendly workshops. For more information, visit lancastercityartgalleries.com.

Autumn Festival at Indian Echo Caverns — Hummelstown

Wednesday, Oct. 9 

AACA Fall Meet — Hershey 

The Antique Automobile Club of America hosts the 64th annual AACA Fall Meet at the Giant Center in Hershey. The car show features a flea market and over 1,500 historic automobiles. For more information, visit hershey.aaca.com or call 717-566-7720. 

Thursday, Oct. 10 

Pennsylvania National Horse Show — Harrisburg

Friday, Oct. 11 

Spooky Spirits — downtown Hanover

Saturday, Oct. 12

Yorktoberfest — York

Apple Fest at Boehm's Chapel Society — Willow Street 

The Boehm's United Methodist Campus hosts the 34th annual Apple Festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The festival features historic walking tours, dozens of vendors and plenty of homemade apple dumplings and apple pie. For more information, visit boehmschapel.org or call 717-872-4133. 

Harvest Days at Landis Valley Village — Lancaster

Tuesday, Oct. 15

Hershey Halloween Parade — Hershey 

The 72nd annual Hershey Halloween parade begins at 7 p.m. The parade starts at the Hershey Recreational Center and moves along Elm Avenue through Ridge, Chocolate and Cocoa Avenues. For more information, visit derrytownship.org or call 717-533-7138. 

Friday, Oct. 18 

Pumpkin Glow at Hershey Gardens — Hershey 

Hershey Gardens hosts the annual Pumpkin Glow from Friday, Oct. 18 through Saturday, Oct. 19. The event features over 200 carved pumpkins, costumed characters and attendees are encouraged to trick-or-treat along the event route. Pumpkin Glow returns for a second weekend on Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct., 26. For more information, visit hersheygardens.org or call 717-534-3492. 

Film on the Farm at Wyndridge Farm — Dallastown

'Frankenstein' with York Symphony Orchestra — downtown York

Chambersburg Applefest — downtown Chambersburg

Choctoberfest — downtown Hershey

Sunday, Oct. 20 

Oyster Festival at Agricultural & Industrial Museum — downtown York 

The Agricultural & Industrial Museum hosts the 45th annual Oyster Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The pay-as-you-eat event features plenty of oysters, crab cakes, live music, craft beer and gallery tours. For more information, visit yorkhistorycenter.org or call 717-848-1587. 

The York County Heritage Trust's Oyster Festival is a great local tradition.

Saturday, Oct. 26 

Classic Chills Film Fest at Hershey Theatre — Hershey 

The Halloween tradition continues at the Hershey Theatre with two special showings of "The Addams Family" at 7 p.m. and "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" at 11:59 p.m. Each film is $8. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit hersheyentertainment.com or call 717-534-3405. 

Costume & Cocktail Crawl — downtown York 

Who doesn't love a little adult Halloween? Restaurant Row in downtown York hosts the Costume & Cocktail Crawl from noon to 5 p.m. Costumes are welcomed and each participating restaurant will have Halloween themed food and drink menus. Millersville Community-University Parade — Millersville

Sunday, Oct. 27 

York Halloween Parade — downtown York 

The 70th annual York Halloween Parade begins at 2 p.m. This year's theme is a "Tribute to 7 decades" and will feature Halloween styles from the past 70 years. For more information, visit eventiveyork.com.

The 69th Annual York Halloween Parade presented by York Traditions Bank Sunday in York works its way east on Market Street.

Great Pumpkin Day at the State Museum — Harrisburg 

The State Museum of Pennsylvania hosts the Great Pumpkin Day from noon to 3 p.m. The family-friendly event features Halloween-themed presentations, live entertainment and a costume parade. For more information, visit statemuseumpa.org. or call 717-787-4980. 

Monday, Oct. 28 

Lititz Halloween Parade — Lititz
