USA TODAY Sports college football staff picks for Week 4 of the season

USA TODAY Sports

This is why we are college football fans. For games like this weekend.

Much of the attention will be placed on the inter-sectional showdown between No. 3 Georgia and No. 7 Notre Dame that is expected to have a Super Bowl atmosphere in Athens. And rightfully so. It's a rare matchup of elite programs with College Football Playoff implications.

But that's not the only show going on in Week 4. A huge game in the Big Ten sees No. 14 Wisconsin host No. 10 Michigan in a pivotal early matchup for two programs hoping to reach the conference title game. A loss would be a significant setback for each team.

Notre Dame wide receiver Chris Finke carries the ball as Georgia safety J.R. Reed prepares to make a tackle during their game in 2017.

In the SEC, there's No. 9 Auburn traveling to No. 15 Texas A&M. Both the Tigers and Aggies have hopes of being contenders in the West, but only one will emerge victorious.

Beyond the three top 15 matchups, there a lot to take in.

No. 11 Utah heads to Southern California in what could be a decisive game in the Pac-12 South. No. 13 Texas faces nemesis Oklahoma State as it tries to start the Big 12 schedule on the right foot. No. 21 Washington goes on the road to giant-killer BYU.

There's also some traditional rivalries as Florida and Tennessee meet along with Oregon and Stanford.

So sit back and enjoy the ride.
