FarmWise boosts R&D for autonomous weeder

An autonomous weeding robot company has raised $14.5 million for its next round of research and development.

California-based FarmWise’s autonomous robot travels fields to identify weeds and mechanically removes them much like a garden hoe.

The company sees the robots as ‘specialized doctors for crops’ and want them to be able to intervene with individualized targeted responses according to each plant’s needs.

The next level of development will increase the scale and depth of plant-detection technology to help farmers with more crops.

Calibrate Ventures, Wilbur Ellis, Xplorer Capital and Alumni Ventures Group were behind the lasted round of funding.

Since founded in 2016, FarmWise robots have removed weeds from more than 10 million plants on vegetable farms.
